This Selle Italia SLR Monolink Flow Team Edition Saddle has the characteristic White and Red Team logos that their sponsored riders always use. Aside from the color, what differentiates it from the standard SLR Flow saddle are the carbon fiber Monolink rails. Rather than having a side-by-side pair of rails, this one uses an over/under design that allows the nose of the saddle to be slightly narrower for better performance. Selle Italia calls its narrow-nose design "Friction Free," and the result is energy saved when you pedal. Look at your saddles. Are the covers always frayed along the sides of the nose? It probably matches the pilled/thin spots on your bib shorts. Selle Italia's Friction Free SLR Flow addresses this issue by carving out the width of the standard taper of the SLR from the widest portion at the wings to the rounded tip of the nose. This is only possible because of the narrower rail design. Another benefit of the Monolink design is that it offers a greater range of fore/aft adjustability than a standard system. The Monolink rails are molded in one piece using carbon fiber. They aren't alone; the injection molded shell is made of 30% carbon as well. It's light, strong, and designed to flex just enough to provide comfort over rough roads. The "Flow" in the name means that this saddle has a cutout in the shell. Its placement and shape are carefully designed to reduce pressure on your soft parts. In turn, this helps to alleviate numbness and pain - letting the firm, wider portion of the saddle support your weight at the sit bones. The EVA foam padding is lightweight too, and they use just enough to give you a cushioned perch. The Selle Italia SLR Flow Team Edition Saddle measures 131mm wide and 275mm long.
